One of my dogs eat a slice of wedding cake should i worry?

September 8th, 2009 | by admin |

I have three dogs and we dont know which one it is, i have two caviler king charles and a tiny chihuahua. The wedding cake was the normal fruit cake with icing and marzipan. My chi is tiny so its her im more worried about, It wasnt a large slice but i know if small dogs get ill they really can suffer. Should i worry?

abit digrace /… (dog eating a humans wedding cake) but fdont worry as long as the cakse was’t poisionous or the dog isnt allergic to cakes.

I wouldn’t worry to much. She might have diarrhea or vomit but if its not excessive, I wouldn’t think much of it. Good Luck!

The dog will be fine. Just remember to brush his teeth. The sugar will cause a cavity very quickly.

Unless it was the dog who got married, it’s kinda rude to let them do that.

YOUR DOGS WILL BE FINE SINCE THE CAKE WASN’T CHOCOLATE. DOGS CANNOT DIGEST CHOCOLATE AND ANYTHING MADE FROM COCOA CAN BE LIFE THREATENING TO A DOG (depending on the amount ingested)

no, its just a cake …. so, ur dog will be fine. if she cannot digest it, then she may have diarrhoea but nothing like a big deal 2 worry about. so …….. JUST CHILL girl.

Fruit cake means raisins and sutanas which are dried grapes (Grapes are toxic to dogs)

Your dogs are only small, so it would only take a small amount to make them ill.

I would phone the vet st to be safe, and keep an eye on them incase any of them to get ill

Before assuming that your dogs will be fine, we need to know what was in the cake – did it contain grapes, raisins, xylitol, sugar substitute, or chocolate? If so, then these can all be harmful and even deadly, especially to a little dog. Other ingredients to watch out for – dairy products, macadamia nuts, walnuts, and nutmeg are all possible ingredients in cakes. These can also harm your dog. Also, too much sugar can increase their glucose and can bring on acute or even chronic diabetes (and I have watched first hand as diabetes took the life of my uncle’s boston terrier in a horrible manner!)

To be on the safe side, I would take her in to the vet for a checkup – my mother has a 5 lb. mini dachshund that ate an olive that fell on the floor (off of a piece of pizza) and had to have emergency surgery to open her stomach up – she was bleeding from the rectum and throwing up foam. She had the same issue a year later after eating something else off of the floor (never found out what it was, but she had to have surgery again.)

You have to be really careful with dogs, especially small ones – their system is fragile and not used to processed foods.

If you can’t take her to the vet at the moment, then watch her closely for diarrhea, bloody urine, bloody stool, vomiting (foam, grass, liquids, etc.), excessive thirst, excessive urination, unexplained whining or abnormal behavior, sensitivity in her tummy or back-end region (especially when you pick her up), constipation, loss of appetite, seizures, excessive trembling or shaking, impaired vision, trouble breathing, lack of coordination when walking, listlessness, drastic personality changes, and anything out of the ordinary. If she experiences any of these symptoms – take her to the vet right away (it’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your babies!)

One other thing to mention – whenever I’m worried about the health or stress of any of my dogs (I have 23), I always add a scoop of Missing Link, a scoop of Canine Transfer Factor, and often I add in a scoop of the Canine Stress Factor (from the same people who make Transfer Factor) to their meals. I also give them some pedialite and feed plain organic boiled chicken (no skin, no bones, shredded or cut up fine) mixed with brown or white rice or oatmeal. This change in food and additional supplementation always helps their system realign and balance itself out. Do this for the next week or so, along with a trip to the vet, and all should be well!

Hope I could help! Email with any questions!

    Warmly,
    Michele
