What is the significance of the man in the jaw trap?

The guy Amanda had to cut open to get the key from was her drug dealer. The test was showing that she depended on him for her to survive since he was the one she depended on to get drugs.

He should have done something bad since everyone else involved in jigsaws traps have,. but they didnt mention it in the movie
