Golf Slice?

September 8th, 2009 | by admin |

I can’t get this slice out of my drive, and sometimes in my long shots with irons. I’ve tried many things, but none of them seem to work, they just mess it up more. Help!!

On the driving range, slow things down dramatically and only take a half swing. Don’t go for distance, just work on hitting it straight. One of the biggest causes of a slice is trying to overpower it. Golfers just have a natural inclination to kill their drives. They think it is the only way to get distance.

Once you can keep it straight, then work on taking the club back a little more. All time working on accuracy. Forget about distance. The distance will come with time.

if you are right handed keep your right elbow close to your body through out your swing. Make sure your club shafts are the right stiffness for your swing speed. Strengthen your grip

changing your swing would not help your game, it would just make you mess up more. In your back swing check to see if your arm is going up more than your shoulder, if it is than thats the problem. Basically try to hit your shoulder with your forearm to straighten out your back swing. or the reason could be you are swinging to hard

Have you checked the grip? The Vs formed by your thumb and forefinger should be pointing over the center of the back shoulder. On the finish of your backswing the club should be parallel with the ground with the head pointing down the target line. As a drill start your club from that position without taking the backswing. Make sure your downswing goes through the ball to a full finish. Don’t hit at the ball, hit through the ball., extending the club head toward the target.

There are really too many possible causes for a slice for anyone to fix it for you without watching you swing. Don’t listen to advice given.

Spend your next "golf money" on a lesson, preferably with a PGA Professional. It will pay off for the rest of your golfing career.

I had also encountered the same situation as yours, I asked many experts how to fix, but no matter what I have done, I am not satisfied with myself. But until I read a book which really provides me a lot of technical skill to master the proper gesture to avoid slice out of my every drive !

It is easy to use, simple to learn and not only does it make sense…it works. I find that I am actually enjoying my practice time now. The drills are fun and have taken all the work out of my practice time. My ball control has improved dramatically and I am much more confident in my swing. I am no longer trying to remember all the things I "should do" when I swing. I just swing now…and the ball happens to be in the way!”

Hope it will help you out of such kind of trouble too !

As you can see already….there are any number of reasons that you may be slicing. The best advice though is to see a Teaching pro……he or she will be able to see what you are actually doing to cause the slice and give you ways to correct it…….Money well spent.

Well in the beggining of the season last year, i had a horrible slice as well. To get rid of it i tried everything, what i noticed to work the best is that i opend up the face(i know it sounds weird but it works) I also put my hands in front of the ball and stifend my arms. That worked great for me, and it should work for you.
