How do I fix my epic slice?

September 18th, 2009 | by admin |

I played baseball for 10 years, and I’m trying to undo everything they taught me about how to swing to play golf. I tend to rotate my hips and my hands, causing my to hit my ball right. Also, when I close up the club face, I get a huge slice on the ball. Sometimes I hit the ball on the left side of the fairway, and it curves all the way over to the right side of the fairway. How do I fix this?

Playing baseball can definetely lead to slicing the ball in golf, but without seeing your swing it is really impossible to give specific tips to cure your slice. There are many, many, factors that can cause that ball flight.

I would recommend getting a lesson from a local PGA teaching Professional, it will be well worth the time and money as they can diagnose and help correct the problem very quickly. It also saves you the aggravation and time of guessing and trial-and-error attempting to fix your problem on your own. Any advice that is not specific to you can be detrimental to your swing and cause more problems than it fixes.

Hope this helps, good luck!

rotate your right hand so that it slightly overlaps your left hand, until you can feel a slight difference in your lower arm. or, take more upwards instead of around your body.

you have to close your shoulders to not go right when your driving you want to have more weight on your back foot and before you hit line your feet up with the ball and move your left foot at a 45 degree angle and then move your right foot out just have a nice smooth swing with your elbows straight until you get above your head and then bring the club back and swing through the ball, always look at the ball until you hit it then look up at the ball looking up will make your shoulders and hips move to guide the ball straighter this should help with your problem i always did the same thing but now i hit straighter

Act like you’re hitting a low pitch. Many baseball players play golf recreationally and are single digit handicaps. The swing path is similar. You have to make sure your transfer your weight to your front foot and square the club face. That is why it’s going to the right. The club face isn’t square.

Try to capture a glimpse of where your hands and club is hitting the ball upon striking. What you want to see is your hands, your shaft and club head in a straight line at contact. My guess is you’re striking the ball with your hands behind the ball which would generally lead to a balloon or slice. Hope this helps.
