I try different techniques and no matter what I do they go right. How can hit striaght

Check your grip. The grip is one thing that most amatures overlook when they are slicing the ball. If you are not sure how your grip should be, then go to your local golf store and find a training club with a grip that automatically puts your hands in the right position on the club. If you buy the club it will help you greatly. One other fault many amatures posses is having the wrong wrist action and leaving the club head open at impact. Even if you swing on the correct plane the ball will go right if the face is open. The last thing to remember is a great drill I learned. When you are in your down swing, imagine your ball is in the middle of a pool table. Swing as if you are trying to knock it in the corner pocket on the right with a square club face. This will make you swing inside on the ball and cause it to go straight or draw slightly.

My backswing is ok but when I begin to swing forward my hips are always faster than my hands which opens up the golf club face and causes pretty bad slice, anyone know any drills or tips to fix this?

Considering all of THAT, it sounds like a typical case of "overswinging" and thus trying too hard to swing too fast so as to hit it far.
But the other thing I see, is that even if you do something to correct your clubhead (being open at impact), you’ll hit dead pulls if you get the clubhead square(er) at impact.
A proper golf swing has a lot to do about timing, and you’ve not got all the parts working and timed together.
As a result, the simple answer is to slow down to 70-80% of your full potential, as is a common practice of better golfers and tour players, so as to allow your hands to keep pace with your hips.
And thus the only other thing I could really suggest, and would highly recommend, is that you sign up for some lessons from your local teaching pro so as to get a proper grasp of the fundamentals.

i played baseball from the age of 4 till i was 18 then i threw out my shoulder and can no longer play. i have played golf since age 14, i am not 23 and still swing a golf club like a baseball bat. i have tried everything… any ideas would be great

1.Are you swinging the club over the top of your head? i.e. coming over the top. The shoulder injury may be causing this to occur as well.

2. If you played baseball, that’s great! Try swinging that driver like a ball bat. Watch Jim Furyk. He loops the club inside at the top to prevent himself from going ‘over the top’ as I stated in in 1.. Try going on the web and find a video of Jim’s swing. This is a good drill to force you to hit it straight.
Heres a link that show how Jim keeps from slicing.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTuTrpWCZhU

3. Most likely the most critical advice that I can give you, is to have a pro take a look at how you are gripping the club. 9 out of 10 of the people that I see slicing, are gripping the club WRONG! Hole that puppy in your fingers. Your hands should also be ‘married’ to the point where you can hold a quarter between your hands without it falling out during your swing.

4.If you are right handed, try a drill where you put a towel under your right armpit during your swing at the range while practicing. Try to complete your swing without allowing the towel to fall out of your armpit. This is a common drill that I have seen V.J. Singh uses.

Have a real good golfer look at your swing, or a local pro may look at it for free. I can tell you, when I changed my grip(and the change is going to feel really weird to you at first, until you cook one straight as an arrow 300 hundred yards, then you will love the grip change).

And try (if you are right handed) backing up that right foot in your stance just a little, that will also promote a hook.

Good luck to you and good golfing!

I am right-handed, relatively athletic, and have done well at different sports such as soccer and tennis. Also when I started golfing I seemed to hit the ball straighter than I do know. I need to fix my slice, but am not sure what to do. Help!

The reason you are slicing the ball is because your club face is ‘open’ at impact. This means the club face is pointing slightly away from your body when you bring it through the golf ball. What happens then is that this open club face, as it comes through the ball, creates left-to-right or clockwise spin on the ball. The result is a ball flight that may begin straight, but that veers towards your right. Since you are a right-handed golder this is what is causing your slice.

To cure your golf slice you need to make sure that the club face is ’square’ with the golf ball at impact. There are a number of ways you can do this. Start your swing with the club face ’square’ to the golf ball and begin by not taking a full backswing. The shorter your backswing the less room for error as you bring the club back to the ball. Practice this swing beginning with a very short backswing and getting it progressively longer. The result will be more solid control when your club face impacts the golf ball. Usually, the slower, more controlled backswing drill helps many of my students fix their slice.

Hopefully it will work for you too!

rotate your left hand further to the left and make the V in your hand point to your shoulder. When you take your club back, don’t bend the club backwards with your wrists too early, make sure you do it gradually. Its almost as if your wrists stay stiff with the club for a little while before you bend them. Take your club face STRAIGHT BACK instead of bringing it on the inside, then as you go down on your swing, tuck your elbow into your hip and try to hit the lower inside of the ball. Make sure you don’t go too fast on your backswing and accelerate through the ball. Most people make the mistake of trying to hit their driver 150%X the speed of their irons, when, if they swung 3/4 the speed they normally do, the ball goes further and straighter. Should work with practice.

forgot to mention, if your skinny and tall, stand closer to the ball and make your backswing should be higher than what your used to. If your chubby, the backswing should be a little more flat.

What part of a golf swing causes a slice, how would you cure it

A slice is fundamentally caused by imparting "clockwise" side spin on the ball (for a right hand-er). There are a multitude of things that a person can do to cause this, and without knowing "what type of slice" you have, it really isn’t possible to tell you of any fixes over this medium.

Here is a list of some of the possible reasons:
- Your club vs your body’s alignment to the target; (i.e. your body may be aiming well left, but your club is aiming at the target)
- Club face open at impact
- Club face square at impact while swinging across the ball from out to in (looks like a back Slash "\")
- Not transferring your weight correctly
- Golf shafts too stiff for you (this would lead to a really weak low slice)
- Ball could be positioned too far forward in your stance

Given all of these possible reasons for slicing (and i’m sure that there are more that i just can’t think of at present), the only way to truly cure it is to invest in some lessons with a pro. Now they will make a couple of suggestions and some of them may feel awkward or strange, but if you stick with it, and practice, you’ll improve. Lastly, if the pro suggests simply aiming further left and allow for it, ask for your money back and find another coach.

A draw in golf is when your ball starts out right after contact then turns slightly to the left(for right handed golfers) as opposed to a hook that turns more pronounced to the left.
A fade is more or less a mirror image of a draw, starting out left with a turn to the right. A slice is more pronounced right turn than a fade.
A pull happens when you hit the ball and it goes straight left with no turn, usually due to the swing or the ball staying on the club head face too long.
