Shorten your backswing a bit, swing slower for contact. Pure contact will make the ball explode off the club with very minimal effort. Visualize the ball flight you want in your mind before every shot you take. See the shot, execute the shot.

There are many ways to cure a slice but one thing that does help is the grip of course. Many people say to make your grip a little stronger which will help.

But I have another question then. You should be releasing the club through the ball which is caused by your hands turning over. If you have a strong grip, wouldn’t it naturally be harder to roll your hands over which means at the point of impact, the face could be a lot more open than it should?

NO your toe will be more closed at impact because youe hands have returned to a natural position.

I am 6 foot and shoot between 85 and 95 on a normal round. I love nike clubs but are these the right way to go? My natural shot is a slight slice but i think i have cured that now; well every 5 in 6 times anyway. I just need some help to get me hunting at the single figure handicaps. Oh i will give you a list of how far i hit clubs:

SW- 60-100
PW-100-140
9-130-145
8-130-150
7-145-160
6-160-175
5-175-200
4-180-200
3-185-205
5wood- 220
3wood- 220-270
Driver-245-310

P.s i know there are some strange yardages but i am basing it on wet and dry conditions.

Only YOU can answer this. I would make a list of possible club selections based upon your budget and your game. 85-95, you are probably should be looking at "Game-Improvement" Irons (based upon Golf Digest). These will be good clubs that are still very forgiving but starting to allow you to "work" a ball. If you feel you are a bit better then that and have developed a decent swing, then I would check out "Players" irons…these clubs are less forgiving but allow more working of the ball.
This is were your "blades" will be. I would stay away from 100% blades but rather go with a set that is still somewhat cavity backed. I would try and find a Forged club and not a cast club…much better feel. Take this list and go hit them all lots lots lots…the right set will speak for itself. This is very important because this will begin the process of you building your confidence in your new equipment. Regardless of what you choose, I suggest taking them to your local professional club fitter and have them customized to you. About 3-5 dollars per club, this too is very critical. Most manufactorers have a tolerance on Lie angles of plus or minus 2 degrees, way too much to leave.
I had mine done for the first time ever and it has been quite amazing. I wondered why I could crush both 7 and 5 irons but could never hit a decent 6 iron..why…it was bent wrong, within tolerance but at the far end…..like it was off nearly 2 degrees…..

I see every one is so helpful with others golf game. In the land of the blind the one eyed man is king. I just learned on here the slice cure is to hinge your shoulder joint vertically. When i tried to hinge my shoulder ball joint, i hurt my self. What do you think the average handicap of these e-pros is?
and can you tell me how to hinge my shoulder proper.
well according to the responders the average handicap is 4.33

I’m a 3 myself.

And I have to say I’ve never heard of hinging your shoulder joint vertically? Just imagining it sounds painful. Shoulder turn and just letting your hands drop is sort of the basic way to cure the slice.

Without seeing your swing, it would be tough to pinpoint a specific reason or suggest a correction. But understanding why a ball slices may help you think about possible problems with your swing.

For a right-handed player, a slice occurs because of a clock-wise rotation on the golf ball (as viewed from above). Much like a curve ball in baseball, the spin causes a differential pressure across the ball and "pushes" it to the right. This spin is imparted on the ball because the club face’s path is not in line with the target, rather, it is slightly across the ball from right to left (or outside to inside if viewed from behind). To hit the ball straight, remember that the club face must impact the ball squarely and in line with your target.

This may help. If not, a golf pro can observe your swing and suggest corrections to improve your swing plane.

It was named the number one training aid by Golf Digest 2 years in a row. I own one. It worked for me, my wife and a buddy of mine. You have to work with it. The infomercial says it will fix your swing in 6 swings. Don’t believe that. I used it on the range for an hour or so a day with all of my clubs. It probably took a week or so at an hour a day. Sometimes I still visualize it when I swing. I bought a knockoff on ebay for $30. See if you can find one. I’d sell you mine, but I still use it from time to time.

I have a problem with hitting a golf ball to high and with a bit of a slice. I know that if I was able to cure this I could get more distance out of my playing as well as some control on my direction. Any advise?

you have a classic high slice…and i will tell you though that i had a major slice for a long while and did two things to stop it…

1st step was going from graphite shafts to iron…the graphite bends to much in a fast swing and makes the club head approach the ball horribly

2nd and this was the biggest problem…keep your left arm sta=raight while you swing…allmy friends and myself whenever we have had slicing problems it always seems that it is because that left arm bends and now keeping everything straight through the hit is very very hard…i gaurantee it will feel a lil diferent when you start to keep that arm straight…you’ll notice that the club doesnt go as far back, causse that the way the body works…but this is simply corrected by turning your hips back farther…

also…check on your stance to make sure the ball is forming a perfect triangle with your feet…hitting the ball too soo in the swing or to late causes substantial problems…and it is a very common mistake to not really make sure your standing correctly with the ball placed just right…

i gaurantee you once you hit the ball right with your arm straight and you hear that perfect crack followed by a beautiful high arching ’straight’ ball…you’ll thank me

I am pretty set i’ll never make the PGA tour. I do love the game though. I love to improve, and help others do the same. I love just watching the ball fly. And there is no greater satisfaction then when you cure someones slice. What can i do to make Golf my career, even if I can never go on tour.

Most club professionals start as assistants to the head pro. They service the membership, by getting their clubs, putting them on carts, selling them merchandise from the pro shop, booking starting times, opening and closing the shop. During the season the assistants put in very long hours. In the meantime they are studying pro shop operations, selling techniques, teaching techniques, which comes as an apprenticeship for two years with a PGA club pro. During this time the club professional will have the assistant run clinics for new golfers, junior golfers and even suggest members take lessons from the assistant. Once they are ready and have exhibited that they can play the game by scoring in the mid 70s they take both a written exam which is graded by the PGA committee and an oral exam in front of the same committee. Their pro shop management exam may be regiional and only given during the winter months. They must pass this as part of their certification. Then when all the preliminary requisites have been fulfilled, the PGA professional under whom he has served his apprenticeship will recommend that he be rated as a PGA professional. He will now join many other assistants who have gone the same route looking for a club at which he may be head PGA golf professional.
